About Young Soul Rebels
Young Soul Rebels is the name of the group of artists who took part in a 2009 charity single by the charity group War Child UK. This group specializes in helping children who were soldiers of war internationally and to address the ongoing consequences of warfare on young children. They even formed their own music download site called War Child Music, and have been releasing several compilations to help support their cause since 1995. “I Got Soul” is the group’s first ever single. It was released on October 19, 2009.
The song “I Got Soul” is a cover of The Killers’ hit “All These Things That I’ve Done.” According to War Child UK’s spokesperson, the song is centered around the mantra-like lyrics “I got soul but I’m not a soldier” as a tribute “to the 300,000 children who sadly are.” Many of Britain’s top young artists have contributed to the track, including Chipmunk, VV Brown, Frankmusik, and Pixie Lott. A music video was shot for the track, featuring the artists recording their lines in a recording studio coupled with images of children in poverty. The track has gone to #10 on the British Singles Charts, and performed at the Mabo Awards 2009.
