About Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift was born on 13 December, 1989 in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. At the age of 10, she began writing songs after learning how to play the guitar. She is influenced by Shania Twain, The Dixie Chicks, Tina Turner and Leann Rimes, among others. She was signed the the Big Machine label at the age of 14, and in 2006, she released her debut single “Tim McGraw.” Her self-titled debut album was also released in October of that year, and peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 in her native United States. It also spawned 5 hit singles, including “Teardrops on My Guitar” and “Should’ve Said No.”
On 11 November, 2008, Swift released her sophomore album, Fearless. It debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and sold over 550,000 copies within its first release, catapulting Taylor Swift to superstardom. It topped the charts for 11 nonconsecutive weeks, went 6x platinum in America, and was the top-selling album of 2009. It also was a hit internationally, selling 600,000 copies in the United Kingdom, and an additional one million copies throughout the rest of the world. It was re-released in 2009 with six additional songs. Fearless also won many awards, including Album of the Year at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards.
Recently, Swift completed her first Autralian tour, bringing the tour to 5 major Australian cities. She also made her acting debut in the ensemble film, Valentine’s Day, where she provided the track “Today Was a Fairytale” to the film’s soundtrack. She is working on her third album, set to be released later in 2010.
