About Skepta
Skepta is the stage name used by North London native, Joseph Junior Adenuga. Born in 1982, he started his career as a driver for Big H, a legend in the grime genre, a style widely associated in the United Kingdom as a hybrid of dancehall, UK garage and hip hop. He also spinned for Big H & President T under the stage name DJ ToneDeaf before getting behind the mixing board and becoming a producer.
Since becoming a producer, he also started making music with his brother, JME. He earned a hit with “Private Caller,” which became immensely popular throughout London. He has also performed his music around the world, from the United States to Russia and even Saudi Arabia, as well as British festivals, such as the Glastonbury festivals, all without having a proper album released. He has also had exposure in various magazines and television programs. He also started a label with JME, called Boy Better Know, which has specialized in releasing mixtape compilations of various grime artists, including Frisco and Wiley. Skepta is also associated with the Roll Deep music collective.
His hits so far have included “Duppy,” “R U Dumb,” “The Large Way,” and “Stupid.” His latest album is entitled Doin It Again, and he is putting out a “pure grime” record in September 2010, which will be called Skeng to the Head. His latest single, “Bad Boy,” has made the UK Top 40. He is also at work on another album for the Roll Deep collective to be released sometime this year.
