About Scissor Sisters
The Scissor Sisters are a New York City based outfit that formed in 2001. The members consist of Jake Shears (vocals, guitar, piano), Babydaddy (bass, keyboards), Ana Matronic (vocals, keyboards), Del Marquis (guitar, bass), and Paddy Boom (drums, percussion) Inspired by glam rock, drag queens and burlesque theatrics, the group has created a sound amalgating rock and pop, and their music has been acclaimed by the likes of Bono, Elton John and Kylie Minogue. Getting their start in the New York club scene, they have played with electroclash acts, such as Peaches and Chicks on Speed before signing to the A Touch of Class label. They released their first single "Electrobix" in 2002, which had lyrical themes pertaining to gay men's obsession with working out, but the B-Side of that single, a cover of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb," garnered more attention in the press. It became a hit in many dance clubs throughout the US and Europe, and even got positive acclaim from the members of Pink Floyd.
The Scissor Sisters signed to Polydor Records in early 2003, with “Comfortably Numb” becoming a UK Top 10 hit in early 2004. Later in 2004, they released their eponymous debut album which topped the UK charts, and became UK's best selling album of that year. It contained the singles "Laura," "Filthy/Gorgeous," and "Take Your Mama." However, chart success was not as immediate in their native United States. Their album was banned from Wal-Mart for their "snarling attack on conservatism," but they still gained positive reviews from critics and became a hit in the indie community.
In 2005, the band worked on their sophomore album Ta-Dah, in which the band fulfilled a dream by collaborating with gay icon Elton John on the single "I Don't Feel Like Dancing." The single became another #1 hit for the band in the UK, and Ta-Dah was released in September 2006 to positive reviews. It even debuted in the US Top 20 that autumn.
After Ta-Dah the members of the band took some time off to plot their next move. By 2008, the band had reconvened with new drummer Randy Real, replacing Paddy Boom, who left the band amicably, and started work on their Night Work album. After scrapping an album's worth of songs, 2009 saw the completion of Night Work, and it was released in the summer of 2010. The single "Fire With Fire" has been successful in both the UK and the US. Currently, the band is supporting Lady Gaga on her North American leg of her Monster's Ball Tour.
