About Rihanna
Rihanna's full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. She is a native of Barbados and was born on the 20th of February 1988. In her short career so far, she has sold over 14 million records.
At the age of 16, she relocated from her native Barbados to the USA to pursue her recording career. She found herself auditioning for Jay-Z, who at that time was the head of Def Jam Recordings. This audition was successful and she signed with the label.
Her first album, 'Music of the Sun' was released in 2005. This achieved top ten status in the US Billboard chart. A single from the album, 'Pon de Replay' was released and was a Billboard Hot 100 hit.
Her second album, 'A Girl Like Me' was released within a year of her debut. It outperformed its predecessor, reaching the Billboard top five. From it also came a US number one hit, 'SOS.' Other singles taken from the album included 'Unfaithful' and 'Break It Off.'
Her success continued in 2007 when her next release, 'Good Girl Gone Bad' made the number two spot on Billboard. She also enjoyed three US number one hit singles, with 'Umbrella', 'Take a Bow' and 'Disturbia.' Another track, 'Don't Stop the Music' attained international popularity. 'Good Girl Gone Bad' was also nominated for nine Grammy Awards.
In 2008 allegations surfaced of an alleged assault on Rihanna by her then-boyfriend, Chris Brown. A Grammy Awards performance was canceled due to visible facial injuries left by his attack. She subsequently testified against Brown, and has spoken out about the dangers of domestic violence.
Two years later, in November 2009, she released her next album, Rated R. So far, there have been two singles released, 'Hard' and 'Russian Roulette' which were both top ten hits in the US.
