About Rage Against the Machine
Formed in los Angeles in 1991, Rage Against the Machine has been seen as a major influence in hard rock & metal, with many saying that their one of the first bands to ignite the subgenre known as "rap-rock." Combining politically conscious lyrics with blazing guitars, complex raps, and pounding beats, Rage Against the Machine slathered a fresh coat of paint in the metal genre. The band is comrpised of Zach de la Rocha (vocals), Tom Morello (guitars), Tim Commerford (bass), and Brad Wilk (drums).
They released their self-titled debut album in 1992, which garnered a significant amount of commerical success. Critics celebrated their sociopolitical-strewn lyricism, and Tom Morello became a new guitar hero with his innovative style of playing. Thier success landed them a spot on 1993's Lollapalooza Festival, and their debut album went triple platinum in America. In 1996, they released their second album, Evil Empire, which went straight to the top of the charts in the United States, and contained rock radio staples, such as "Bulls on Parade," and "People of the Sun." Their 1999 album, The Battle of Los Angeles also was a commercial success, and cemented the band's reputation as one of the most influential bands in contemporary rock music, especially with the explosion of rap-metal in the late 1990s.
After releasing an album of covers, entitled Renegades in 2000, the band called it quits. Vocalist Zach de la Rocha began a low-profile solo careers, and the remaining members temeaed up with ex-Soundgarden frontman, Chris Cornell, to form the band Audioslave, which was commercially successful. Audioslave disbanded in 2007 after three albums, and Rage Against the Machine announced that they were reuniting. Since 2007, the band has played many festivals and concerts worldwide, but haven't yet worked on any new material.
