About Professor Green
Stephen Paul Manderson is an English rapper who is more popularly known as Professor Green. He was born in East London on 27 November 1983. He was brought up by her grandmother because soon after his birth, his parents got separated. He got his name of 'Professor Green' since he used to sell marijuana from a young age until jumping into his music career. Marijuana is also called ‘green’ and Manderson was very intelligent. So, he got his name Professor Green.
In 2006, when he was 23 years old he released his first mixtape entitled Lecture #1. In 2010, he released his debut album entitled Alive Till I'm Dead. The album featured guest vocal artists Emeli Sandé, Example, Fink, Labrinth and Lily Allen.
Professor Green signed a deal with the record label The Beats, owned by Mike Skinner and Ted Mayhem and remained part of the contract until February 2008. Later he produced the EP The Green EP on his own.
In July 2008, he won the JumpOff MySpace rap tournament and won prize money of £50,000. In 2009, he accompanied Lily Allen on her 2009 performance tour. After his tour with Lily Allen, he was signed by Virgin Records. Professor Green released his "I Need You Tonight" on Virgin Records. Later along with Lily Allen, he released "Just Be Good To Green" which is inspired by the track “Just Be Good to Me” of The SOS Band. Besides touring with Lily Allen, he also toured with the American rapper The Game.
