About Owl City

Owl City is the name used by musician Adam Young for his synthpop project. A native of Minnesota, Young started making music while living with his parents, taking inspiration from European dance music, as well as disco. Like most bands these days, he developed a following through the social networking site, MySpace, and after two independent releases, he was signed to Universal Republic.

Recently, Young has gained popularity with his single, "Fireflies," off his album, 2009's Ocean Eyes. The single started off slowly, debuting on the US Hot 100 at 97, but its rise in popularity catapulted the song to the top of the charts in the first week of November. In turn, Ocean City has peaked at #8 on the Billbaord 200 Albums chart. "Fireflies" has also become a success internationally, reaching #1 on the U.K. Top 40.

Critical reaction to Owl City has been mixed. Detractors denounce Owl City as a shameless rip-off of the Postal Service. Others, however, admire Young's light-hearted lyrics and soothing melodies. Still, Young has resonated with fans worldwide, and has toured with acts such as Deas Veil, and Lights.
