About Olly Murs
Olly Murs is the stage name of English singer, songwriter and presenter Oliver Stanley “Olly” Murs, born on the 14th of May 1984 in Essex, England.
Murs was in to parents Vicky and Peter Murs, of Latvian descendent. He has a twin brother by the name of Ben and a sister, Fay. Growing up Murs attended the Howbridge Junior School in Witham, Notley High School in Braintree, Essex. In high school he was the leading striker in the school’s football team. He also played football semi-professionally in Witham Town and was a big fan of Manchester United.
Before beginning a career in music, Murs worked as an energy advisor in a call center and played in the Soccer Aid for charity in the beginning of 2010.
2009 brought Murs his big break in the showbiz industry. He performed Superstitions by Stevie Wonder during the first stages of the show and has attracted the attention of judge Simon Cowell who was his mentor during the show. Murs, reached the finals, where he again played Superstitions and followed a duet with Robbie Williams on Angels. Unfortunately, he came second.
In February 2010 Murs signed with Epic Records and Syco Music and released his debut album in November the same year, under the name Olly Murs. The album entered the UK Charts Album at number two.
The first single of the album, Please Don’t Let Me Go, was released on the 27 August 2010 and on the 5th of September the track debuted on number 1 in the UK Singles Chart. On the 21st of November Murs released his second single, Thinking of Me, which also was well received.
On the 4th of July 2011 Murs announced on his official YouTube page that he will release the lead single for his second album, Hear Skips a Beat, on the 21st of August. The release date of the second album still remains unknown.
