About Noah & The Whale
Noah and the Whale is a popular English folk band which was formed in 2006. The members of this band are Charlie Fink on guitar and vocals, Tom Hobden on keys, Matt "Urby Whale" Owens on bass guitar, Fred Abbott on guitar and keys and Michael Petulla on drums. Emmy the Great also sang for the band for a brief period of time. In many tours, Lillie Flynn and Rebecca Taylor also accompanied the band as female vocalists. Doug Fink, who is the brother of singer Charlie, also played drums for the band for a short period of time. Until the mid of 2008, Laura Marling was also a part of the band and used to perform in the band’s shows. On the debut album of the band, Laura also sang the background songs.
The band got its name 'Noah and the Whale' from the title of one of the famous films The Squid and the Whale and its director Noah Baumbach. At first, Noah and the Whale released few singles which were liked by the music lovers. Then on 11 August 2008, they released their debut album, Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down. The album debuted at Number 5 on the UK’s Albums Chart. Many critics reviewed the album positively.
The band has been very popular among the music lovers across the world and has been compared to some of the best bands of all times. One can see an obvious influence of both the punk rock and the folk on the band’s music.
