About Marina & The Diamonds
Martina and the Diamonds is Welsh-born singer-songwritere Marina Lambrini Diamandis. She was born on the 10th of October 1985, and her artist name refers to her name, but also her relationship with her audience; 'I'm Marina. You are the Diamonds.'
She first came to public attention after she was shortlisted on the BBC 'Sound of 2010' list. Her first recorded output , Mermaid Vs. Sailor' 'was self-financed and produced by someone she met on Gumtree.
'The Crown Jewels EP,' was released by Neon Gold Records in 2009. Her relationship with this first record label was short-lived; she is now signed to 679 Recordings, with whom her debut studio album 'The Family Jewels' was released in early 2010. Her Record company for the US is Atlantic Records.
Her music is a varied mixture of keyboard balladry and louder full-band songs which have a more full-bodied, new wave sound. She has employed a variety of musicians in her backing band, but currently it consists of keyboardists Peter Carr and Jonathon Shone, Bassist Dan Gulino and drummer Sebastian Sternberg.
2010 looks to be the year that things begin to happen for Marina- her debut album achieved silver status before it was even released, and achieved a highest placing of number 4 in the UK Albums Chart. This album release was accompanied by the single 'Hollywood.' The band also conducted their first headlining tour of the UK in January and February 2010.
She is also collaborating with Los Angeles musicians Benny Blanco and Dave Sitek, and 'The Family Jewels' will receive a US release on 25 May, 2010.
