About Leona Lewis
Leona Lewis is a british R&B performer, multi-platinum selling artist and three-time Grammy Award nominee. She was born on 3rd April 1985 in Islington, London, and initially rose to public attention as the winner of the third series of the British television programme 'The X-Factor.'
Her success as a singles artist has been phenomenal. After her appearance on the show 'X Factor,' her debut single 'A Moment Like This' was downloaded at a higher rate than any single ever, with in excess of 50,000 people downloading it within the first thirty minutes after its release. This made it the fastest-selling UK single in chart history. Her follow-up, 'Bleeding Love' was similarly well-received, hitting the top spot in more than thirty different singles charts worldwide. Once again, in November 2008 she was on record-setting pace with her cover version of Snow Patrol's 'Run,' which achieved sales of 69,244 copies in just two days.
Her albums have been successful on a similar level- her debut, 'Spirit' was the biggest selling record of 2007 in Ireland and the UK, and has since sold over 6.5 million copies worldwide.
The follow-up, 'Echo,' was released in November 2009 and once again reached number one in the UK Albums Chart. It also placed within the top ten in the Swiss, Irish and Australian charts. The first single from it, 'Happy' was released on the 15th of September in advance of the album. This was a number two success for Lewis in the UK, and then a top-ten hit in six other countries. Notably, she also recorded 'I See You (Theme From Avatar)' for Director James Cameron's Sci-Fi epic, which was nominated for 'Best Original Song' in that year's Golden Globe Awards.
Her first world tour is scheduled to begin in May 2010.
