About Journey
Journey was formed in 1973 by guitarist neal Schon after a brief stint in Santana. The band started off as a progressive rock band, but changed styles at the behest of their label, Columbia Records, after lackluster sales of their first three albums. The band hired singer Steve Perry in 1977, and as a result, their sound changed to a more AOR-friendly format. Their fourth album, Infinity (1978), gave the band their first hits with "Lights," and "Wheel in the Sky," and the band was cataplutled into superstardom.
With Steve Perry up front, the band released a string of multi-platinum album and hit singles. Such hits included "Don't Stop Believin'," "Loving, Touching, Squeezing," and "Separate Ways." However, in 1987, the band parted ways to pursue other interests.
In 1996, however, the band reunited, and released a new album entitled Trial By Fire, which was very successful. Unfortunately, vocalist Steve Perry was sidelined by hip pain, and had to undergo hip repalcement surgery. The band decided to hire another singer to replace Perry, and relations between him and the band are still acriminous to this day. Undaunted, the band has continued success with different vocalists replacing Perry throughout the 2000s. As of December 2009, the band is recording a new album with vocalist Arnel Pineda, a Filipino vocalist they discovered on YouTube.
