About Foster the People
Foster the People is an indie pop band which was formed in 2009 in Los Angeles, California. The members of the band are: Mark Foster (vocals, keyboards, piano, synthesizers, guitar, programming, percussion), Mark Pontius (drums and second percussion) and Cubbie Fink: bass and backing vocals.
Besides the actual members, two other musicians: Sean Cimino (guitar, keyboard, synthesizer and backing vocals) and Isom Innis (keyboard, piano and backing vocals), who usually accompany the band on their tour. In fact, Cimmino holds the credits for the guitar on the track Waste from the Foster the People’s album, Torches. Innis’s contribution to the album is unknown and is believed not to be too significant.
A former member of the band until 2011, Zach “Reazon” Heiligman (sampler, Music Production Center, programming, digital percussion, SFX, other production and minimal backing vocals) was the co-writer of Miss You with Mark Foster. He is a close friend of Mark Foster and has previously collaborated with him on hip-hop projects before the formation of the Foster the People band.
The band was formed while its members were in their mid twenties. The band leader, Mark Foster used to shoot and edit the music videos for the well known indie band Malbec.
The band’s name was previously Foster & the People, but the name was misheard and the band’s name became Foster the People, as the image of ‘taking care of the people’ grew with the band.
In 2011, the band released their first album, Torches, which reached number 1 in the US Alternative and Rock Charts. Their promotional single for the album, Pumped up Kicks which was released in 2010, reached number one in the Billboard’s Alternative Songs Chart.
