About DJ Zinc
DJ Zinc is the stage name of Benjamin Pettit, a Breakstep and Drum and Bass DJ from the UK. He has also worked as a Producer, in a career which spans the evolution of hard dance music from its original roots through a variety of sub-genres up until the present day.
DJ Zinc has recorded under a number of different aliases, and released a wide variety of commercial and otherwise available music, but his most widely known success is 'Super Sharp Shooter,' a fusion of Jungle and hip hop which was first released in 1995.
Throughout his career, he has moved from one genre of Dance Music to the next, and has never been afraid to experiment- he has released different records outside of the relatively narrow genre of Drum and Bass under a variety of pseudonyms, including Jammin, Dope Skillz, Pacific Shox, Tuned Air and Tyranny.
He also has links to other existing artists and collectives- he has often worked with Dj Hype, a close friend of his, and has been a member of both the Tru Playaz collective and the Ganja Kru. He also runs his own record label, 'Bingo Beats Records.'
More recently, he took the decision to change direction in his career, giving up Djing at drum and bass nights in 2007 to take a career hiatus and help raise his son. In 2008, he returned to the DJ scene with a new hybrid house sound which he has semi-seriously named 'Crack House.'
DJ Zinc continues to DJ and record under his various aliases, and to push forward into new forms of music.
