About Coldstream Guards Band
In London, England you will find there are many military bands which provide music for their regiments. Of these one of the oldest military bands and one of the best known bands is that of the Coldstream Guards Band. This band which is also known as the Band of the Coldstream Guards was formed on May 16th 1785 under the command of Major C F Eley. The band’s primary function is to provide music for the Changing of the Guard which happens outside of Buckingham Palace in the summer months precisely at eleven thirty in the morning.
In addition to providing this Changing of the Guard music, the Coldstream Guards Band also serves the regiment in other areas. These areas include the Trooping of the Colour, The Festival of Remembrance and the Beating the Retreat. There are also times when you will be able to see the Coldstream Guards Band performing at some non-military functions and events.
While the Coldstream Guards Band envelops all of the musical talents found within the regiment, the band itself is broken into smaller divisions which showcase a particular area of expertise. These subdivisions are the Marching Band, Function Band, Jazz Trio, Rock Band Monck, Concert Band, Brass Quintet, Fanfares, Orchestra and the Woodwind Quintet.
In June 2009 the Coldstream Guards Band signed a record deal with Universal Music imprint Decca. The result of this deal was the public debut album of the band. The album which is called Heroes was released on November 30th 2009.
