About Cher Lloyd
Cher Lloyd [b. 1993] is yet another pop singer whose fame stems from her appearance as a contestant on the TV reality series, The X Factor. Born in Malvern (Worcestershire), U.K., Lloyd finished fourth in the 2010 edition of the show and subsequently signed a recording contract with Syco Music, a subsidiary of Sony Records that is a joint venture with producer-entertainer Simon Cowell. In addition to her singing experience, Lloyd has also studied theatre arts.
Lloyd’s 2010 The X Factor performance was actually her third attempt to be part of the troupe, having failed at two previous auditions. Her fourth-place finish notwithstanding, her vocal skills were considered strong enough that she was given the opportunity to create a debut album, working closely with songwriter Autumn Rowe (the New York-based singer who has written material for Swizz Beats, Alexandra Burke, and Leona Lewis) and producer RedOne (real name, Nadir Khayat, who has received six Grammy nominations). The trio’s initial efforts yielded the Lloyd single, “Swagger Jagger,” which officially debuted on the final day of July 2011 and took only seven days to hit the number one spot on the U.K. Singles Chart.
With a debut album in the offing—Sticks + Stones was released for the U.K. market in November 2011—Lloyd collaborated with several well-known British and American singers to help flesh out the balance of her album’s tracks. Among those featured alongside Lloyd on this album are Busta Rhymes, Mike Posner, and Ghetts. The single she recorded with Posner, “With Ur Love,” went as high as Number Four on the U.K. Singles Chart.
A British promotional tour for Lloyd’s album has been scheduled for March–April 2012, commencing at Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone and wrapping up at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in London two weeks later. The whirlwind tour includes dates in Leeds, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham, and a total of 14 venues in all. Lloyd reportedly signed a U.S. distribution deal with Epic Records in December 2011, through which her debut album will be released in the United States.
