About Calvin Harris
Calvin Harris is a Scottish singer-songwriter, DJ and record producer. He was born Adam Richard Wiles on 17 January 1984 in Dumfries. He has released two studio albums, remixed and produced a large number of hits for other artists. His trademark sound is an 80s-tinged electropop music with a contemporary feel.
His first release was at the age of 21, under the name Stouffer on Prima Facie records. This met with little recognition.
Harris continued to work at his music in relative obscurity, until in 2006 he came to the attention of EMI and Sony BMG, partly due to his music being spotted on Myspace. At this point in time, Harris was unemployed.
From that moment, his fortunes changed rapidly- his first album 'I Created Disco' was released on 29 June 2007. He then toured as the support act for Faithless and Groove Armada.
several singles from this album were released, including the top ten UK hit 'Acceptable in the 80s,' and the top five hit 'The Girls.'
In that year he worked with Kylie Minogue on her album 'X.' He is quoted as saying that he 'needed a few drinks before meeting her' due to the surreal nature of working with such a huge star.
He has also worked with Dizzie Rascal, and remixed songs for artists like CSS, Primal Scream and the Kaiser Chiefs.
In August 2009, his second album 'Ready for the Weekend' was released, achieving a number one placing in the UK album charts. From it came the number one single 'I'm Not Alone' and the top five single 'Ready for the Weekend.'
He also enjoyed brief notoriety in November 2009 when he interrupted a performance by Jedward during the ITV2 programme 'The X Factor,' and subsequently criticized Simon Cowell's 'stranglehold' over the UK music charts.
