About Bloc Party

Bloc Party is a successful British indie rock band formed in 2003. The band consists of Kele Okerche (vocals/guitar), Russell Lissack (guitar), Gordon Moakes (bass) and Matt Tong (drums). In late 2003, the band released their debut single “She’s Hearing Voices,” which got the band signed to the Wichita Recordings label in 2004. In 2005, the band released their debut album, Silent Alarm, which met with universal critical acclaim and was a great commercial hit in Britain (and a massive underground hit in the United States). It contained the hit singles “So Here We Are” and “Banquet.” Critics praised their high energy reminiscent of post-punk bands, such as Joy Division and Sonic Youth. NME named it the Best Album of 2005. Silent Alarm shifted more than a million units worldwide, and sold 350,000 copies in the United States alone.

In 2007, the band released their sophomore album, A Weekend in the City, which debuted at #2 on the British Charts and #12 on the Billboard 200. While it released slightly less enthusiastic reviews than Silent Alarm, A Weekend in the City was a commercial success, spawning four hit singles, including “The Prayer,” and “I Still Remember.” Bloc Party released their third album, Intimacy, in 2008, showcasing a more electronic-influenced sound inspired by Radiohead. In 2009, they released the non-album single “One More Chance.” Yet, there were reports of tensions within the band, and frontman Kele Okerche working on a solo album. The band announced they were going on hiatus, and played their final show on 31 October, 2009 in Dorset. However, it has been speculated that the band will resume action later this year.
